My baby Samhaine' ("Saw-MEE-nay") as a yearling in October '07.
She is the first foal born to my "Project Nai'a Ali'i" which is, for the moment, still somewhat hidden behind a veil of secrecy until the project has matured a little bit more.
She was born on Halloween (hence her name), she is by a blue roan Welsh Pony stallion and out of a 18.1 hand black American Saddlebred mare. She already shows alot of scope and elasticity in her gaits... I am very excited about the future with this little girl, who is standing just under 16 hands now!
Thank you, I've been breeding specifically for a horse like her! I've also got a couple of blue roan Half Arabians (sired by blue roan Tennessee Walker stallion out of HZ black Arabian mares who are actually quite pretty also)

Actually, looking at it more closely.. something seems odd about her markings. Its obvious by the coloring she must be a blue roan, but she doesn't have the points at the front of her knees. It could be possible that she has another gene on top of that.. infact, I think I see a little bit of red too. What color was the mother?
She is turned out in a pasture that has alot of red dirt in it (its a Hawaii thing) and that stuff stains everything, espeically coats. Also because of the weather, you cant really see it in this photo, but her mane and tail have some burnt orange on the end tips of the hair (her mane espeically). Its not her coloring so much as just the way hair looks due to sun-fade, and its even more obvious on a solid black horse than on a black with roan.
The sire is a blue roan (Black base with roan gene) and the mother is a black Saddlebred. Both parents are Homozygous black.

Well, that may be so, but it doesn't explain why the black markings aren't pointed.. I wish I could show you a picture.. um.. I know I have it on my com somewhere... Anyway, with bay points, the black stockings aren't really in any particular shape. They can be higher on some horses and lower on others, or just fading into the brown at the top of the stocking, or waved around unevenly about the knee.. but with roans, the black stockings are supposed to come to the knee in a precise triangular point, with the black pointing upwards ahead of each knee. Let me find a good link pic...

As of recent, the talented =Behana has joined us in bringing you this weekly newsletter and we are excited to have her on board. This is a special feature, with a selection of 50 manips from the past year that we loved.
